There is even more uncertainty for Adelaide skaters after the temporary closure of the City Skate Park this week.
The park will be closed for a month as preparatory work begins on the site ahead of construction of the new biomedical precinct next year. The park will re-open in September until the Council’s lease expires in February 2015.
Although the site is being demolished as part of the Riverbank redevelopment, the State Government has still not allocated the $2 million needed to establish a new park.
As a result, Adelaide skaters face the real prospect that there may be no skate park in the city for a prolonged period of time.
It’s critical that the Government allocates the funding needed to provide this vital public space in the city.
